TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, also known as argon welding, is a precise arc welding process in which an electric arc is formed between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the workpiece under an inert shielding gas atmosphere such as argon. The argon gas protects the molten metal pool from oxygen, nitrogen and water vapor, preventing oxidation and contamination.
The welder holds the torch in one hand while feeding filler wire into the molten pool with the other in a controlled manner — this is what gives TIG welding its characteristic precision and clean seam quality.
