How Is Laser Cutting Pricing Calculated?

Süreç 21.07.2026

The most common question asked by businesses considering laser cutting services is: "How much will this cost?" The answer is not a single number but emerges from a combination of several variables. In this article, we explain the main factors that determine price and how the quoting process works.

Material Type

Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized sheet are processed at different cutting speeds. Reflective and conductive materials like stainless and aluminum require more laser power and time to cut, which directly affects cost.

Thickness

The thicker the material, the slower the laser head must move. Thin sheet (1-2 mm) is cut quickly and economically, while thick materials such as 15-25 mm increase cutting time and thus cost.

Cutting Length and Complexity

The more complex a part's geometry (many corners, internal holes, fine detail), the longer the total distance traveled by the laser head. A simple rectangular part will not cost the same as a part with dozens of holes and details.

Quantity

Unit cost decreases in series production, because setup costs (material placement, program loading) are spread across the whole batch. In single-piece prototype jobs, this setup cost falls on a single product, so unit price may appear higher.

Material Scrap Rate

How parts are placed on the sheet (nesting) determines the amount of scrap. Good nesting software reduces material waste, lowering cost.

How Does the Quote Process Work?

1. Send your technical drawing in DXF, DWG, or STEP format.

2. Share material, thickness, and quantity information.

3. Receive a detailed price quote within 24 hours.

4. Production is planned after approval.

Conclusion

Laser cutting price is not a single fixed rate; it is a combination of variables such as material, thickness, geometry, and quantity. The only way to learn the most accurate price is to share your technical file and get a detailed quote.
