What Is Spot Welding?
Spot welding (resistance spot welding) is a process in which two or more overlapping sheet metal parts are pressed together between copper electrodes, and an electric current is passed through them so that the electrical resistance at the contact point converts to heat, joining the parts at a single point.
How It Works
A high-amperage, short-duration current is applied to the sheet parts placed between the electrodes. Resistance at the contact surface generates heat that locally melts the material; after the current stops, electrode pressure continues, allowing the molten area to cool and solidify.
