What Is MIG/MAG (Gas Metal Arc) Welding?
MIG/MAG (Metal Inert Gas / Metal Active Gas) welding is an arc welding process based on continuously feeding a consumable wire electrode into the weld pool while it is melted under a shielding gas (argon, CO2, or a mixture). It is commonly known as gas metal arc welding.
MIG or MAG?
MIG uses an inert gas - typically pure argon - and is preferred for materials such as aluminum and stainless steel. MAG uses an active gas (CO2 or an argon/CO2 mixture) and is common for carbon steel welding.
